Yoga for children 5-8 years
At this age yoga is taught as a series of stories and games where the children use their imagination as well as their bodies. The children act out the stories, practicing postures, breathing techniques and exercising their imagination. They might learn the hissing cobra or the roaring lion or they might visualise hanging up their worries on the worry tree. They will release tensions in a positive way and improve health from within.
Yoga for children 9-13Slightly older students are able to practice a variety of classic yoga sequences that improve health, strength and flexibility. These include the Salute to the Sun sequence, the warrior sequence, and pawanmuktasana (energy block releasing practices).
Children are taught to integrate their movement and breath mindfully, which helps them to feel harmonised and open to learning. They will learn simple breathing exercises, which calm the mind and also learn visualisation and concentration practices, which help them to release tension and realise potential.
