Healthy living for london is a not for profit organisation established to promote and increase access to healthy living services for all people living and working in London. With direct partnership support from a broad group of community providers and The Healing Tent as principal partner, healthy living for london aims to provide on-going value for money healthy living services for the benefit of the London community, and a healthy living purple bus to promote healthy living and allow communities to access a range of health services
Complementary health services help take the strain off other pressurised key services like the NHS. We believe the best outcomes for clients can only be achieved through an integrated approach to health and social care and joint working with local authorities, NHS (Teaching & PCTs), the Learning Trust, local schools and colleges and New Deal Job Centres. With the right support, advice, and information, clients are empowered to make better choices about their health and well-being and in turn promote healthy living in the community.
our key aims To promote healthy living in the community
To improve accessibility of healthy living services for all sections of the community
To provide the highest quality of care with the assurance that all therapists & tutors are appropriately regulated, supported and monitored through professional institutions
To encourage clients to make healthy lifestyle choices and involve them in service design, delivery & evaluation
To deliver integrated, accessible services by working jointly with other professionals and organisations such as GP's, SureStart, schools & colleges, councils and community groups
To offer work experience opportunities to students and newly qualified complementary health practitioners leading to employment opportunities
support
We deliver quality services which help implement key government health initiatives with very limited funding (and a strong reliance on volunteers & discounted therapists' fees). But financial and practical support is required to ensure sustainability, increase community awareness and to make the services more accessible for more people in London. We aim to achieve this by working jointly with local Councils, the NHS, Education Learning Trusts, New Deal Job Centres and other organisations.
If you or your organisation would like to support healthy living for london so we can continue to deliver these much-needed services or would like to find out more about how we can promote healthy living in your community, please contact us.
current projects
We work in some of the most deprived wards in England offering our services to people of all ages who have low incomes. Establishing good links with other community providers, we are doing fantastic work with all sections (and generations) of the culturally diverse community from babies as young as 6 weeks to 90-year-old seniors.
Local people can access low cost complementary therapies, yoga, t'ai chi and capoeira classes. We work closely with SureStart to deliver free baby massage classes, pre- and post-natal yoga, healthy living seminars and events. We're also working with SureStart, Early Years Centres and Schools to bring fantastic education programmes to local children; Healthy Eating, Upside Down and Fancies of Flight. These not only develop children's ability to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase physical skills but also boost their self-confidence, creativity and zest for learning.
Working with local authorities, social landlords and GPs, we're also bringing fitness classes specifically aimed for young and older people as well as meditation and relaxation classes to tackle high blood pressure and other health conditions. These kinds of activities also promote social cohesiveness.
For community health or fun days, why not have our healthy living purple bus visit your event?
