
Shiatsu, meaning 'finger pressure', is a traditional Japanese hands on therapeutic practice performed through your clothing usually on a mat or a chair. Characterised by its simplicity, shiatsu was developed from earlier forms of eastern massage and uses hand pressure and manipulative tehcniques to adjust the body's physical structure and natural inner energies to help fend off illness and maintain good health and well being. To facilitate deep, subtle changes in the body's energy or 'ki', shiatsu incorporates often still, relaxed pressure with the hand, thumb or elbow as well as simple rotations of the limbs and breath awareness. Touch may be lighter or deeper depending on your individual needs, your therapist helping you to acknowledge and build awarenss of your own body's balance both during and after the treatment. All this creates a deeply relaxing and therapeutic treatment.
